Amid the Russian special operation, Ukraine withdrew six of its helicopters deployed in Africa as part of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), Africa Intelligence reports.

According to the publication, Kyiv's decision “endangered” the combat readiness of the mission forces.

In Mali, since 2012, an armed conflict between government troops and militants of various separatist and Islamist groups has continued. The situation in the country escalated due to the situation in Libya after the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi.

To contain the confrontation, the UN Security Council in April 2013 established the UN Multidisciplinary Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali in order to support political processes in this country and performing a number of security tasks. As part of this mission, over 13,000 military personnel are in Mali. Since the beginning of the mission, 260 peacekeepers have died.
