The RAEX rating agency has published an updated rating best Russian universities for 2022. It includes 100 universities from 31 regions of the country.
Which Russian universities are recognized as the best?
In the updated ranking, more than half of the places in the ranking were occupied by universities of two metropolitan agglomerations. 33 universities are located in Moscow, 12 in St. Petersburg and six in the Moscow region.

The top ten of the ranking has not changed much compared to 2021. St. Petersburg State University, which occupied the fourth position, has risen to the third and displaced MEPhI from it. The Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and the National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University also switched places.
How is the rating formed?
The RAEX rating of the best universities in Russia has been published annually since 2012. This is the only Russian educational ranking that has passed the international audit of the IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence. The RAEX agency has the "IREG Approved" mark, which confirms the high quality standard of the rating methodology, the procedure for its preparation and presentation of results.
43 indicators are used to compile the rating. They are grouped into three groups: the quality of education in universities (gives 50% of the final grade), the demand for graduates by employers (30%) and the level of research activity (20%).
