Canada has added Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to the sanctions list, reportedly on the government website.

RBC asked the synodal department for relations between the church, society and the media for a comment.

In addition to the patriarch, Canada's sanctions include:

  • former head of Yandex Tigran Khudaverdyan;
  • Roskomnadzor head Andrey Lipov and his deputies Vladimir Logunov, Oleg Terlyakov, Vadim Subbotin and Milos Wagner;
  • MIA columnist “Russia Today” Petr Akopov;
  • TV presenter of the program “Time” on the “First Channel” Ekaterina Andreeva.

In addition, Canada has introduced restrictive measures against Roskomnadzor itself and the news agency Regnum.

In mid-June, sanctions against Patriarch Kirill for “explicit support of Russian military aggression in Ukraine” brought in by the UK. He also stated that Russia never attacked other countries, but “only defended its borders.”
